I’m wondering if you are using organic chicken livers? I have had a hard time finding them organic. If they are where do you get them?
Thanks,
Amy

Yes, it is important to always use organic when you are eating liver.
I get mine from Healthy Family Farms — a local farm that raises organic poultry that are not fed soy.
Before I knew about them, I used Rocky chicken livers — which I found at Whole Foods. They are organic (but I think they do feed soy).
Have you checked with your local WAPF chapter for local sources? Where do you live?
If you can’t find a local source, I recommend ordering them from US Wellness Meats. I have ordered from them before. The products are excellent quality and they ship very fast.

F.Y.I. Rocky’s are not organic. Rosie’s are organic.
Also, I have really enjoyed your site. Thank. you. It contains a wealth of info. I am new to WAP eating but not new to eating organic.

Ugh — really?! That’s so deceptive!
They told me at Whole Foods that they were organic.
I still have some Rocky’s chicken livers in the freezer. I am going to throw them away.
BTW — I think Rocky’s/Rosie’s is all bullshit. It’s what Michael Pollan calls “Big Organic”. It may be organic but it is not sustainable and the chickens are not pastured. Their beaks are clipped and they are in a dark barn. Ugh. It’s so horrible how they hide the truth and market this food like it’s a good thing.

Are the livers from grassland beef organic they just say free range? I live in Colorado and have a great source for raw milk and organic grassfed beef, but can’t find organic chicken livers for my daughter and myself.

I wanted to tell you my daughter was just put on the Gaps diet by Dr. Cowan. She is 20 months old and is skinny and very behind developmentally. We have done it for almost 2 weeks and she is already starting to walk. I am very hopeful this will save her health. Anyway, its awesome seeing your posts about your experiance.

Amy – it says on their site that the chicken has “No pesticides, herbicides, hormones or antibiotics.”
I know the WAPF endorses them so I highly doubt that they would sell chicken products that are not organic.
You could call them and ask: (877) 383-0051
That is AWESOME about your daughter! Congratulations! Are you still in the intro phase of the diet? Have her stools normalized yet? Was she constipated before?

I used to happily buy the Rosies but after reading Micheal Pollan’s book, your site
, Nourishing Traditions and other WAP info on the web, I am seeking out pastured ones. It is not that easy. If you don’t get to the farmer’s market early here, they are gone. I just ordered some chicken livers from grassland beef.com. I am not sure if they are certified organic but I think that their practices would be considered organic.
BTW, Rockys are pesticide, herbicide, hormone and antibiotic free but their feed is not organic. Rosies are all of the above with organic feed. But, of course, as you said, “big organic”. I guess I will buy them only as a last resort.

She is starting the full diet without dairy, and in four to six weeks we are going to talk to him about where to go from there. She never had abnormal stools. I do think they seem better since startting the diet. At the beginning she was slightly constipated. Her sleep habits are starting to normalize. That has been awesome.

Hi Ann Marie,
How often do you give Kate the butter oil and how much? I’m thinking about ordering some for my son. Thanks!

Hi, Lauren,
I ran out and haven’t been giving it to her for the past few weeks.
But I’m going to order some more. I give her 1/2 tsp daily. Seth and I are going to take it, too, along with our cod liver oil.
We are also going to start taking the fermented cod liver oil.

Hi,
I want to give my kids Biokult, but I don’t know how to give it to them – they are to young to swallow the capsules. How do you give it to Kate?

I used to put it in her food. Now I put it in her bottle.
I open up the capsule and put it in her bottle of formula at night.
