I know… weird, huh? I mean, it’s summertime.
I still think I have gluten intolerance but I don’t think it was entirely the pizza that caused this. I think the reason I am so stuffed up today is due to a cold.
The reason I say this is (a) this reaction is much worse than it normally is and (b) Kate is reacting too.
Kate has been sneezing and coughing all day. She has not been sick since last February. But it’s clear that she’s got something. Her nose was runny all day long. And she did not eat anything out of the ordinary.
So I think we caught something.
I’m going to bed now. (Ahem — yes, at 9:30 pm.)

You know what, with the exception of once in january we haven’t been sick for over a year! But we have runny noses and red eyes and slight sore throats. I think it’s allergies. Supposedly weeds are bad right now, even in dry Colorado.
So perhaps its allergies.

I think we just got some kind of bug and our bodies are dealing with it.
Here’s what I think — I think that when you eat healthier and you are healthier, you still get sick (the body does need to clean house and sometimes you do encounter pathogens) but when you do get sick, it’s not as bad as it used to be. It’s milder and doesn’t knock you out for a week. You know?
I got very mildly sick a few months ago. It was just a sore throat and a little extra mucus and it only lasted a couple of days. Normally it would have been much worse — lasting a week or more, with much worse symptoms.
I also noticed this when I was in my 20s. I was recovering from an overgrowth of candida which had caused a variety of health challenges: CFS, arthritis, chemical sensitivity, respiratory allergies and chronic sinus infections. My holistic doctor had me on a sugar-free, wheat-free diet and I was taking strong probitotics.
At one point, a very nasty flu went through my office. I got it too, but my doctor had me on large doses of vitamin C and Congaplex (thymus gland from Standard Process). I recovered in just 2 days. Everyone else was out of the office for a week to 2 weeks. They were all on antibiotics; I didn’t take any antibiotics — just nutritional supplements.
So I think Kate and I got exposed to some bug — but it’s not too bad. We’re just sneezing and she’s coughing a little.
I bet we’ll be better by tomorrow!

When I feel a cold coming on, I always mega-dose the Vit C and it goes away immediately. But normally, I don’t get sick which kind of concerns me. I rarely get sick ever. I might get one cold a year, but that’s it.
Now I want to pick up a cold and houseclean!

I’m taking Congaplex. It is amazing.
One cold a year is normal.

PS: I feel almost better already. I really think that Congaplex is powerful! I took 4 last night and 3 this morning.

I’ve also felt like I was coming down with something for the last few days. Last night I made garlic tea from a recipe I got from healingnatuallybybee.com. I had the best sleep I’ve had in months! This morning I awoke feeling energetic and all the aching in my joints is gone! Maybe it’s just coincidence, but I dunno…
Here’s the recipe:
Boil 4 cups of water
Remove the water from the heat
Add 5 medium sized cloves of garlic, crushed, the juice of one lemon, and 1 tsp of grated raw ginger.
Let it steep for 20 minutes
Strain and drink 4 cups throughout the day for at least 7 days to treat respiratory ailments
Drink it hot or cold (I drank it hot). It keeps well in the fridge for 24 hours

Do you think this cold is why you were feeling bad after having the pizza? I was surprised to hear that you reacted that way to having some pizza, esp. since I know you don’t eat white sugar or white flour. You eat very healthy and doing GAPS for several months now, I wonder how you would have damaged your gut?

How are you and Kate recovering? I think getting ill every once in a while, is good for your immune system. You need it, as odd as that sounds. You guys eat so well, just imagine how much worse it could be.
We just got over some viral cold bug this past week also. I am a fan of swallowing raw garlic. I can hide it in certain things if you smash it up, so the kids can take it in also. It works great for me. I also up in intake of hot nettles and rosehips tea.
I will have to look up the Congaplex though.

Hi, Jungleen, yes I think it was just a cold since we were both sneezing. I’m better now (although I was still sneezing up until yesterday). Kate still has a little mucus but that’s it.
I think the problem for me with the pizza is that it is not fermented.
I also think I need to avoid wheat for a while — and sugar of course.
I healed my gut when I was in my 20s but then I ate a SAD diet for about 15 years. And then my OBGYN put me on birth control pills for 3-4 months. In addition to that, swimming in chlorine pools and drinking tap water and eating lots of sugar… I think that would do it! And eating lots of unfermented grains…

Nettles and rosehip tea sounds amazing!
Congaplex is great. What I love to make when we are sick is a soup with homemade chicken broth, coconut milk, raw thymus gland (which is what Congaplex is) and liver (frozen and defrosted), parsley, cilantro, garlic and onion. It tastes like cream of mushroom and it is soooo good for your immune system.
