I’m so happy that Prop 2 passed!
Last night, Farm Sanctuary‘s President and Co-Founder Gene Baur released a statement on the Prop 2 victory:
The passage of Prop 2 in the country’s largest agricultural state marks a monumental victory for farm animals. This campaign did an amazing job of raising public awareness about the cruel treatment farm animals endure at the hands of an industry that has consistently fought meaningful change for animals. Farm Sanctuary supporters and campaign volunteers have seen California voters respond with reason and compassion agreeing that all animals deserve humane treatment. Today marks a significant change in the way we view and treat farm animals and falls closer in line with public sentiments and values of compassion. We look forward to seeing these confinement systems phased out nationwide.” Source: Marketwatch

I was so glad to read about this this morning! The 5th state with such legislation. I hope it trickles over to Texas very soon.

Too bad Prop 8 didn’t have the same fate
That saddened me.
I hope other farmers take the lead and start doing this on their own in other parts of the country!

I am so sad about Prop 8. Especially because the advertising was so deceptive.
They flat out lied — saying that schools would be forced to teach kids about gay marriage. That is just not true!
I also think it’s very bad because a LOT of the money they used to buy all the ads and fund the campaign for Yes on Prop 8 came from people who do not even live in California! Why don’t they mind their own business and let us run our state the way we want?!
I just heard on the radio — oh gosh I can’t remember the exact numbers but I think it was like 2/3 or 3/4 of African Americans voted yes on Prop 8.
Latinos voted about 50/50 yes/no. Asians and Caucasians voted against Prop 8. 3/4 of all Asians/Caucasians voted no.
So it’s an interesting irony that a lot of the people who voted for Obama also voted for Prop 8 (I think I read 90% of African Americans voted for Obama).
Another thing I heard was that 60% of young people (18-29) voted against Prop 8 and 60% of people over 65 voted for it.

Could they have gotten confused? It just seems so odd, I mean it was voting NO to keep it and YES to get rid of it. It seems backwards. Long shot, I know, but I was just shocked that it got voted down.

I suppose it’s possible…
I thought it was pretty clear on the ballot though. It said, “Eliminate same sex marriage.”
The only thing I can think is that those malicious and deceptive ads caused people to vote that way — out of fear.

Hey AM,
This is TOTALLY irrelevant to the prop itself, but it does have to do with farming and animals and diet – and because I can’t seem to find any numbers on the WAPF page. Do you have ANY clue how many grams of protein us more-or-less WAPF followers are supposed to be getting in a day? The traditional stance is 1g per kg of body weight, but I’m not so sure that’s right.
Sorry to hijack your thread. But I figured you already know so much about this, that you might be able to scrounge something up for me.
Hooray for animals, btw! You Californians are great on animal treatment, not so much on the gay rights thing.
I’ll be interested to see if the appeal will work, considering the fact that this is blatantly unconstitutional. It’d be like Jim Crow laws going up for a vote. Cripes.
