If you’re like me, you search online. A lot. I am always “googling” something. I probably do a couple hundred searches a day, easy. Especially when I’m writing.
Google’s corporate motto is “Don’t be evil.” Well, now there’s a search engine that is actually doing some good.
The Weston A. Price Foundation is now receiving funds earned when our members use goodsearch.com instead of other search engines. WAPF receives about 1.3 cents per search on the Yahoo-powered search engine and about three percent of purchases made through their online retail partners, from Amazon to Zappos.
The Weston A. Price Foundation does so much to help small family farms. Supporting them directly affects those farmers.
You can help support the Foundation with every internet search or purchase. Just go to goodsearch.com to register and select the Weston A. Price Foundation as your charity, and then use the search engine for your internet searches and purchases.
WAPF members, please go to goodsearch.com today and bookmark it as your home page. While you’re at it, download the search toolbar. (I emailed GoodSearch and they said as long as you select WAPF on the main Goodsearch page, your searches in the toolbar will count, too. You can check to see if your searches are counting toward the total by clicking on the “Amount Raised” button.)
This is an amazing tool! Just think about it: if I search 100 times a day, and I use GoodSearch, I will be giving the Weston A. Price Foundation close to $500 per year! That’s more than 10 times my annual membership dues of $40.
If only 10% of our membership base of 10,000 (or 1,000 people) use GoodSearch, and the average person does only 25 searches per day, that will equate to almost $100,000 per year for WAPF.
I’m never going back to Google. I hope you join me on GoodSearch!

I now have this added to my search bar in Firefox and will add it to IE as well. Is there anyway we can verify with WAPF that they receive the funds we think they should receive? Are they paying out quarterly or annually?
I’ve heard about some fairly unethical practices by Google and have been looking for an alternate search engine, and now I’ve found one! Thanks!

Hi, Spinner!
This is from their FAQ page:
“When will my organization receive a check?
We will send each organization a check once a year in December for the combined funds earned on GoodSearch and GoodShop during our fiscal year of Oct. 1 through Sept. 30. The minimum check sent is $20. If the organization has earned less than $20, the funds will be allocated on a pro rata basis to those organizations which have met the minimum payment requirement.
The more often an organization’s supporters use GoodSearch and GoodShop, the more money that organization will receive. In no event will we make payments for any earned balance less than $20.”

YUM this place looks AMAZING!
Anna I just went to your blog. You crack me up w/ your New Year’s Resolutions:
“Lose weight or get pregnant or both.”
Ha!!
OK so I just got caught up — Roanoke instead of Ohio. Makes sense. My friend used to live in Blacksburg. It’s pretty there. I will pray for you!

Thanks for the encouragement.
The Blue Ridge area has a thriving local food network. We’ll be in with good people either way.
