Charlie and Lola - Pink Milk Made Healthy

My daughter Kate is addicted to the show, “Charlie & Lola”. As Lola would say, it’s her favorite and her best!

On the show, Lola’s “favorite and best” drink is Pink Milk. We know it as Strawberry Nestle Quick.

Charlie and Lola - Pink Milk Made Healthy

As a tribute to Lola, I concocted a healthy version of Pink Milk so Kate can enjoy it while she watches her show. It’s very easy to whip up in the blender, and it’s all natural and very good for you.

Ingredients:
1 cup whole raw milk
2-3 TBS raw cream (to make it yummier and more nutritious)
1 pastured egg yolk (you can’t taste it, and it greatly increases the nutrition)
1 handful organic strawberries
Stevia, honey or maple syrup to taste
1 pinch sea salt

1. Blend together milk, cream, egg yolk and strawberries.
2. Add pinch of sea salt and sweeten to taste.
3. Strain if you like (not absolutely necessary but it does make it a bit nicer) and serve in a sippy cup or with a straw.

I’d like a drink for Myth Busters. We’ve been on a Myth Busters marathon.

But that pink milk sounds delicious and I am certainly going to make it when strawberries are in season here. :)

  4. Love it! It’s always nice to find ways to treat my children to something that is still good for them. Nestle Quik doesn’t quite fit the bill does it?

My kids must be getting old… I have no idea who Charlie and Lola are!

But I was over here the other day and checked out Zukay– my salsa and garlic relish sampler should be coming any day now!!

This sounds really good! We don’t have many fresh strawberries around here just yet (and when we do they are pricey). I think I’ll try this with a tablespoon of strawberry preserves.

Ha! My kids, now 6 and 8, used to LOVE Charlie and Lola…and even though they do not watch this “baby show” anymore, I still love it and regularly say “fish fingers” whenever I can. I am going to make this pink milk for them….(uh…I just purchased a VitaMix and I WILL find any excuse to use it). ;)

    Haha! “Fish fingers”!

We always say, “absolutely and completely” and “in the the whole universe and world”.

My only complaint is that there are not enough episodes! Kate refuses to watch anything else. We ask, “Lola or Elmo?” and she ALWAYS says “LOLA!” She has good taste; it’s such a brilliant show.

When Seth first watched “Charlie and Lola”, he said (about 5,000,000 times), “YOU are LOLA!!!!”

I think Lola is a lot like Bridget Jones (I watched Bridget Jones recently and was amazed at how alike they are). And I guess I am like that… Messy, emotional, unorganized, bubbly, outgoing, and “small and very funny”. :-D

I’m so glad to have found a recipe for pink milk! My daughter LOVES Charlie and Lola. Lately, she has been asking for strawberry milk but I haven’t gotten around to making it. Now that I have a recipe I’ll have to give it a try. :)

I just found your site and I know this is an older post, but I just wanted to be sure that if you guys love the Charlie and Lola TV show that you read the books by Lauren Child. We’ve gone through all our library has to offer and they are just the best. books. ever (have even managed to slightly replace the princess fixation in our home!!).

Did you know that commercial strawberries are radiated with gamma rays (the most dangerous kind of rays) to get rid of fungi/bacteria? I learned this in chemistry class and now only eat my home-grown strawberries. I’m not sure if the same process is done on organic strawberries, but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

Anyway, I love this recipe! I even make for myself! I’d love to give this to my 3 year old cousin Erica, who loves all things pink, but her parents do not share the same ideals as I do, and I’m not going to force my food philosophy on another. Maybe I’ll just use conventional milk and no egg yolks for her, but it won’t be nearly as nutritious.
