Real Food Wednesdays

It’s that time again — Real Food Wednesday!

What’s Real Food Wednesday, you ask? What’s “real food”? Click here for those answers and more.

This week, I’m sharing the following entry: Easy Homemade Hummus.

I love hummus. It’s so flavorful and makes a very healthy dip or spread. You can buy it premade but the homemade hummus is a thousand times better, and you don’t have to worry about unhealthy GMO oils like canola oil or soybean oil. We love to eat it for dinner, and I like to keep it in the fridge as a healthful, tasty snack.

I can’t wait to see what you all have to share this week!

How to Share Your Post:

1. Post on your blog and be sure to link back to this post. (not just the site, but this post)
2. Add your name (or the name of your blog) and your URL to Mr. Linky below.
3. Non-bloggers – post in the comments!

My Wednesday post is an update on my effort to get the hang of a great artisan multi-grain sourdough bread. I have been making it every week for three weeks and am really enjoying the ritual and the lessons. Not to mention the waffles I make from the extra starter. Please leave a note if you have baking experience to share.

I made a gratin with nettles, raw dairy products, and purple potatoes and posted it as part of Real Food Wednesday. No GMO, no processed ingredients, just wildcrafted or organic greens, heirloom potatoes, raw dairy, and pastured eggs. That is definately Real Food!

For Real Food Wednesday, I linked a post I did a few weeks ago talking about how real food is just a better idea for health and healthy weights. No news there for folks who read this blog. But just wanted to let everyone know I’m here and reading. Love the blog!

I find that commercial foods give me all kinds of negative reactions from rashes to mouth sores…ugh! The more traditional I eat the better I feel! Also, it’s calving season, right? I should be able to try real colostrum very soon :-) Cures what ails ya, I hear.

Rock on real foods! Thanks Ann Marie, love this web site and all the contributors. Mine is from last week (doh!) – an accident recipe which my family keeps asking for, but I have other new posts on my site since then, both Agriculture Society (main) and Health Tip of the Day (http://astotd.blogspot.com/). Happy Wednesday and cheers!

Getting away from sugary drinks is a huge step for many families trying to move towards Real Foods. Check out water kefir for a great alternative. It’s very easy to make and there are many flavor options. My blog post today is how to make Water Kefir Lemonade–my personal favorite!

A bit late in the day, but I am glad to finally be joining (read yesterday’s post to see what’s been taking me so long . . .) I hope to add more posts like mine today that show how we can make real food in small spaces and with limited resources. If I can cook for a family on a boat, you can make real food anywhere. I am excited to show it really can be done!

My post is counterintuive: how celebrity chefs saved food for the rest of us. A lot of derision and anger is directed at certain high profile chefs for not always promoting the most sustainable practices, or encouraging viewers to take shortcuts. But the larger picture is that they demystified cooking and called attention to good ingredients which is like prepping the battlefield before the troops arrive! Hope everyone enjoys! So thrilled to participate!

  12. So I had to just enter my old post, because my planned post for today never came about!

Real Food is the key to staying healthy. I have a link to an article about the swine flu and three natural product groups who joined with the FDA in an surprising (or maybe not so surprising) announcement.
