Since I have a soft spot for children and I am known for my school lunch campaigns, it seemed way overdue to write another article about the importance of feeding our children wholesome, real food. And well, it looks like the controversy is already begun – the first person’s comment shows just how staunch of a supporter she is in the conventional market. It’s really unfortunate just how much people will defend an unethical movement, just because that’s what they’ve been taught to believe their whole lives.

Thanks for Real Food Wednesdays, Ann Marie! :)

This week, we have a flu going around the house, so from the Small Footprint Family archives is my recipe for Raw Buckwheat Granola, which uses soaked and sprouted buckwheat groats, nuts and seeds. It is dehydrated, not baked, so it retains its enzymes and omegas!

Hi Ann Marie! Welcome Home! This week, I’m giving a rundown of proper digestion and show how crucial it is to improve digestion in order to optimize the nutrients we’re getting from our Real Food. Unfortunately, even the best grass-feed beef won’t be utilized properly if our bodies lack the proper enzymes and stomach acid pH to break it down, and if our gallbladder isn’t functioning properly, we can’t assimilate those glorious fat-soluable vitamins!!! Check out how it works; I promise it won’t be boring!

  6. I knew soy could interfere with your endocrine system, but my post this week is about how my dog showed me just how effective soy can be at mimicking estrogen in the body. I still can’t believe how quickly it cleared up her incontinence problem, caused by low estrogen levels. But I don’t want to be giving her soy pills for the rest of her life. Any suggestions?

I made all kinds of popcorn last week and was surprised when my friends said, “Wait, I thought corn was bad for you?” All the HFCS messaging has been skewing corn’s reputation, apparently.

Welcome back from the WAPF conference! I was so happy you twitted and posted pics throughout the conference – that was great!

This week, I’m submitting a recipe for basic eggnog. There are a million and one recipes on the internet for eggnog, so believe me when I say that I’m under no illusions that what I share here is going to revolutionize the eggnog industry. :) It has, however, revolutionized my family! After one little taste, they are hooked.

I’ve got two questions for RFW, one specifically for Anne Marie and one for the crowd.

    1. Anne Marie, this came up a while back at Kelly’s blog and I don’t know if you ever saw it. What’s your opinion/perspective on eating liver at restaurants, do you have a guideline for where you will eat it? Right now the only liver I eat comes from a local (NT supporting!) cattle farmer, though I also eat Boar’s Head Braunschweiger during the week and leverpastej (Swedish pate) made at a Scandinavian food shop in my state.

    2. For everyone: how do you use your traditional cream cheese? I find the taste is a little stronger than I like right now and would like to find things where I can add it.

Hello hello! I just created another article because I was so outraged by this development – the AAFP creating a partnership with Coca cola to educate consumers about the moderate use of sweeteners as part of a healthy lifestyle! This is outrageous, and I think everyone needs to know about this!

Woot! So great to see you all! I am so blessed to know you all, my dear friends — isn’t it great how the internet enables us to connect this way?

The WAPF conference was amazing. You really feel a sense of family there. I hope you can all attend next year. It’s gonna be AWESOME!

I cannot wait to dig into these articles. I’m going to pour a second cup of coffee (shhhh don’t tell Sally Fallon ;-) ) with some chocolate colostrum and stevia, and get to stumbling and tweeting them all.

    Soli -

I try to go to restaurants that buy meat from small farms, not factory farms. You can call ahead and ask them where they get their meat. I pay a little more but I’d rather eat out less frequently and get good-quality meals.

The foie gras I eat is always from one of the two farms I know of — and they are humanely raised (I don’t agree that the gavage hurts the birds — it’s not as ideal as the new, ha — OLD actually — sustainable/humane foie gras methods, however, but no one yet is selling foie gras from those farms — we are anxiously awaiting!

Occasionally, usually when traveling, I will eat liver from restaurants and I don’t know where it comes from. I don’t like to support factory farms and veal fattening pens — so I try to go to restaurants that do not support that either. However, I’m not always successful in doing so.

I’ve lately been experimenting with recipes that don’t use so many grains, even properly prepared grains. I posted a recipe above for amazing almond sauce over yams, but since this is my first time participating (though we’ve been eating in a traditional foods way for several years), I accidentally posted to the main page of the blog instead of specifically to the recipe (though it was at the top of the page when I posted :) ). Sorry about that! Here’s the specific post:http://oceansofjoy.wordpress.com/2009/11/18/amazing-almond-sauce-over-yams/.

I’ve been reading here for months and it’s fun to finally join in with you!
