Hi Anne Marie,
I’m not a regular reader of your website, but I started really delving into it yesterday. I had my 4th baby (in 6 years!) in August. I full intended to breastfeed, but the recovery from that 4th c-section was difficult, plus I had 3 other children’s needs to meet. I pumped for a week (baby was used to bottle, long story) and baby just refused any breastmilk! All that work!
Anyways, I have a source for raw jersey cow milk and made the NT formula. She did BEAUTIFULLY! for about 4 weeks. Then she started really decreasing the amount of each feeding, then refused to eat at all! I was so frustrated and stressed and tried all kinds of things including the dreaded soy formula. (yeah, for a day!) She ended up having silent reflux. I have tried and tried to find raw goat milk in my area, but they are full. I even tried the goat milk in the regular grocery store but they hardly keep it stocked.
So baby is on similac, which she’s doing much better now. She is eating VERY well, and because of her refusal to eat back when she was 2 months, I had to feed her something, and she would eat from a spoon, so I mixed the formula with baby cereal and she would eat it just to get those calories in. So, she eats baby food three times a day as well. I just started egg yolks and have been making some of her food. She is doing great, but, I want her to have the best.
The biggest problem with the homemade formula was the added lactose and she needed it to be thicker. Right now she drinks lactose free formula that has added rice starch so it stays in the belly and not refluxing back into her esophagus.
I am going to try to plead and beg for a share of raw goats milk, but if I can’t get it, I want to go back to the cow milk after Christmas. I just don’t want the spit up! But I’d almost be willing to deal with that again for her to have superior nutrition. In just the short time she was on the formula, I have already noticed a huge difference in her development compared to her sisters. ( I didn’t get the Nourishing Traditions book till the third one was born and raw milk wasn’t in the area yet) She is very verbal, grabbing things and putting them in her mouth, trying to sit unsupported, loves to stand up and spends a lot of time doing so in her jumperoo, started laughing and smiling at specific people before two months, and just seems to really understand what’s going on around her. In the four weeks she was on the formula, she gained 4lbs and grew 7 inches!!!
The meat based formula wasn’t an option because of the lack of good chickens around here (where do I get organic liver?) and TIME! I have 4 little girls, one of which was born with Trisomy 9 and is delayed in some of her skills. (like potty training and lack of speech) Making chicken stock everyday is harder than blending up the milk formula ingredients. At least it is for someone like me who continually forgets something is cooking on the stovetop…
Sorry this is long winded, I was just wondering if you had any thoughts about how to get this milk into a reflux baby without causing a huge mess or pain.
Thanks so much!!!
Jessica

I’m not very familiar with dehydrators, and very new to all this.
Don’t they get kind of warm? So what are the trays made out of? Are they plastic? Or is any of the dehydrator plastic?
I’m wondering if this brand or any brands are certified to be BPA-free, etc? Is that a major concern here?
Thank you.

Just received my Excalibur Dehydrator in the mail today. I’m going to wrap it and put it under the tree. Merry Christmas to me!!
I’m so excited! I think first off I’m going to try some crispy almonds. After that, the sky’s the limit! Since I have an herb garden and a vegetable garden, I know it’ll get a great workout come harvest time!
Thanks so much!

Is the coupon still available? I want to order my dehydrator and found it on Amazon, but if you have a link here that gives a discount then I would love to use it.
Also, it’s my first time here! I found you via The Nourishing Gourmet and am loving both of your websites. I want to get more serious about soaking grains, nuts, seeds, and drying them at low temps. Can you make jerky in the dehydrator as well? I am trying to decide between the 4-tray and the 9-tray as well. Indecision! Help!

I, too, would like to order a dehydrator but see no coupon. I’m interested in the 9 tray one. Thanks!

I have had my Excalibur for 3 years now and I really have put some miles on it. I honestly feel like the sprouted granola I make with it changed my life. If a coupon shows up please let me know
