Kevin Brown, author of The Liberation Diet

Kevin Brown, personal trainer and author of The Liberation Diet, interviewed me this week on his internet radio show, The Liberation Wellness Hour.

It was so fun talking to Kevin! We discussed:

  • industrial food and advertising
  • traditional, farm-fresh food food & health
  • how and why I founded the Real Food Media blog network
  • the growth of the real food movement
  • blogging and social media tools including Twitter & Facebook
  • how farmers and producers of real food are using social media and online tools to convert customers
  • how “mommy bloggers” are educating moms online to nourish their children

    Hi Ann Marie,

I discovered the Real Food movement a couple of months ago and your blog has been a great source of information and recipes — thank you!

I enjoyed the interview, and I have a question. In your archives, I read about the beginning of your weight loss journey after the birth of your daughter. I can really identify, since my baby will be one in February and I’m trying to lose the last 10 pounds of baby weight by then. Do you have more posts that I have missed about your weight loss journey? You look great in the photos — very fit and healthy — so I’m assuming you got it all off somehow. :)

    Thank you!

I am sorry, I am off topic but I have a question regarding lime (Calcium hydroxide). At what store in the US do you buy it?

    Bethany –

I gained 50 lbs with my first pregnancy. I truly believe I had to eat more because I wasn’t eating enough quality foods. I was still on the SAD diet, although I did eat more meat and cheese and butter than most folks (I’ve NEVER been a fan of low-fat diets).

Prior to the pregnancy, I was 125-130 pounds. Gained 50. Now I’m back down to 145. I haven’t yet gotten back down to my pre-pregnancy weight, and not sure if I will. I am not overweight, just not as slim as I once was.

I decided though that it was more important for me to nourish my body for now because I really want to have another baby next year (and I’m 41 so I need to get busy!).

So we’ll see. If I need to hold on to an extra 15 pounds, that’s fine. Meanwhile I am following The Liberation Diet (that’s how I went from 155 to 145 last fall).

I’m also reading The Gabriel Method now. Going to do that and Liberation Diet and maybe I’ll lost hte last 10 pounds or so just in time to get pregnant again! ;-)

Mina – You can buy it online. Look for Mrs. Wage’s Pickling Lime. Oh and I just remembered — Cultures for Health sells it — go to my resources page:

PS: Thanks again for my lovely apron. I still wear it and I think about you every time I put it on!

Thank you Ann Marie. I live in Canada and pickling lime is not available for international shipping. I am coming to the US and would like to buy it. I am staying in NYC for a couple of days. Does anybody know at what store I will be able to find it?

Hi there Ann Marie, long time no ‘see’. So good to see everything going so well for you. I still love the blog and receive various comments to post threads I subscribed to oh, way way back when.

It is so wonderful that these issues are becoming so well publicized. Long Live Raw Milk! My family still drink about 10 litres a week – we are lucky, the dairy is about an 8 minute drive away for us and if we travel for another 3 minutes we can literally put our bottle under the cow and drink the milk warm.

I salute you for your commitment to the cause, from LiveJournal to this – it is fantastic!

I just found out that my eldest daughter is sugar sensitive and that has spurred me into resurrecting my blog and journalling about my strategies for cutting down on the sugar that my daughter seems to becoming more and more affected by.

    speak soon,
    Louisa.
