How to Find Healthy Restaurants with Holly Hickman

Yesterday I did my second podcast radio show with former Fox News reporter Holly Hickman, author of the new restaurant guidebook, Healthy Eats Here!
Wanna know where to get grass-fed beef and organic produce when eating out? You need this book. Holly reviews hundreds of restaurants from Maui to Maine. And not only do you get the book (it’s an e-book, so it’s easy to download), but you get quarterly updates.
Holly and I shared a really fun and interesting conversation about all the restaurants we love, the chefs we adore, and how to get healthy food when eating out.
We also had a PRANK CALLER! The first caller I ever took on a live podcast — ARGGGHHH! Kelly the Kitchen Kop emailed me and said she laughed out loud when heard it — so at least it made somebody chuckle.
Still, it was ANNOYING! I swear, the guy acted like he was 12 — but he sounded much older than that. GROW UP already!
And I got so flustered by this idiot that I actually hung up on Holly. LOL! When it comes to hanging up on guests, I’m 2 for 2! But Holly, being the pro she is, wasn’t phased. She just called right back and kept talking.

I was impressed to hear that Holly checked out the water filtration systems at the restaurants, too. I hope I win a copy of her book!

I liked how Holly talked about the environmental impact of choosing meat vs vegetables, but I wish she had mentioned that grass-fed beef actually *improves* the health of the soil and is good for the environment, where most agriculture is actually really harmful for the planet. Joel Salatin and Lierre Keith talk a lot about this and I think it’s an important point for people who care about the environment.

Listening right now and loving your convo! Ann Marie, I think you handled the prank caller perfectly, you were very chill about the whole thing giving him little reaction. Ridiculous as it was I did get a good laugh out of it!

I finally was able to listen to this podcast. I really look forward to your weekly interviews!
I’ve entered the contest for Holly’s book — what a great resource that is. I liked what she said about eating lower on the food chain when you’re eating out and faced with undesirable choices.
I feel *very* lucky to live near small farms, a Whole Foods, a Trader Joe’s, health- and eco-conscious co-ops and loads of farmers’ markets. Many of the local restaurants try to buy from local vendors. It would be great if everyone could have the same food options.
