This far into winter, I’m always looking for ways to boost my family’s vitamin D. Shrimp paste, which can be purchased inexpensively at asian markets, is a great option. It adds a wonderful savory flavor to dishes. Just tonight, I used it in a stir-fry with elk and bok choy, and have included a recipe for the sauce.

Since we’ve always relied heavily on canned organic tomatoes, I was dismayed to learn about BPA in can liners. So, I’ve been trying to track down sources of canned tomatoes (preferably organic) that don’t contain BPA. My post shows the results of my search!

hello… no, my post is not about nutella again (I’m taking a while to get the hang of blog techniques…!)… it’s about Food as Sustainer; why food is great but we must treat it well.
Also; thanks for having up the banner for the Wise Traditions visit to London; thanks to the link, I have bought my ticket and am super excited!

I’m so excited to have received our first Real Food cellulite success story at the Cellulite Investigation! She wasn’t even trying to treat her cellulite at the time. She made dietary changes for a different symptom, and losing the cellulite was just a side effect! Don’t you love REAL healing!

January was tough for us. I broke a toe and the kids came down with chicken pox! But, the nutritional answer for both includes lots of dark, leafy greens. My post is a recipe for kale made with coconut milk that I could eat just about every day.

I had so much fun with you, Cheeseslave!
And yes, the good news is that there ARE restaurants serving REAL FOOD!
I can finally put down my spatula every now and again. Phew!

I don’t see My. Linky! Oh well. http://modernalternativemama.blogspot.com/2010/01/beef-with-tomato-and-zucchini.html We’re grain-free, so I had to come up with something to eat. This works well as a pasta sauce if you’re not grain free.
I also have a guest post on making over chili today at Kitchen Stewardship’s blog!

I don’t see the Mr. Linky? I disabled the AdBlocker for your blog, but still can’t see it. I’ll check back – but in the meantime, here’s what I’m sharing in Real Food Wednesday.
This has to do with real food organization – my recipe binders needed some desperate attention. Since I set the first one up in 2001, I’ve accumulated some definitely not-so-traditional-and-real food recipes, which I’m a bit chagrined to admit. Everything’s fresh and pure now.
All are welcome to share how you organize your real food recipes.

Today I shared about an powerful real food ingredient I’ve been adding to our broth this winter to boost our immunity – inexpensive, easy, but so powerful!

Hi Ann Marie – I couldn’t find Mr. Linky either, but here’s the post I’m contributing to RFW – Water, Our Lifeline to Health and one easy idea to add minerals to your diet naturally – unsweetened cranberry juice in water – full of minerals! I will come back later and see if it has been fixed. Thanks for Real Food Wednesdays!

I’d like to share a reminder about restaurants. Having stumbled into visiting a local restaurant supply depot and been disgusted by the offerings, I took a bunch of photos and put up some details about it! I’d go so far as to say nearly all restaurants out there use some kind of supply chain like this, whether delivered on a huge truck or picked up in person.

Since we make a lot of homemade yogurt and strained yogurt cheese, we have a ton of whey. I’ve got about 4 huge mason jars full of it right now in the fridge and I end up throwing a lot of it away. So, I’m getting serious about using it more. We’ve been using it to soak whole grains, lacto-ferment veggies and we even tried adding some the the dog’s food (he didn’t mind).

So many of my dishes this New Year have been the same colors…which is what eating locally in winter will get you. I talk about the idea of getting variety all year and whether or not eating locally really means you get what your body needs at that particular time of year.

This is a great idea! I posted a recipe for Rainbow Chard and Leek Saute, topped with a hard boiled egg. I try to incorporate as many local, seasonal foods (i.e. “Real Food”) in my diet throughout the week – using foods from a CSA share and local Farmer’s Market. Take a peak at the recipe: http://coldcerealandtoast.wordpress.com/2010/02/01/egg-topped-rainbow-chard-and-leek-saute/
