Hooray! It’s Day 1 of the Kettlebell Challenge! We’ll be swinging kettlebells for 5 weeks. And I’m giving away $500 in prizes.

I’ve already had 20 people send me their measurements and before photos.

I will be posting my measurements and before photos online sometime in the next few days — been crazy busy and can’t find my measuring tape. I think my daughter has been using it as a leash for her stuffed animals.

How to Log Workouts

Remember to log your workouts every time you do them. I’ve read that it’s best to do kettlebells every other day, not every day. Although you can work out as often as you like.

Winners will be chosen based on RESULTS (weight and inches lost, before and after photos), not the number of times you work out.

Please note — you can only log your workouts ONCE PER DAY. So you must come back to this page to log your workouts on the days that you do them.

You might want to send me some better photos though. The ones you sent are TINY and blurry. I don’t think I would be able to use those.

Feeling you ladies!! Sent my stuff in last night and it was scary to send the photos. Kept telling myself that only AnnMarie will see them unless I am cool enough to win something and then it will be worth it, right!?!? ;P
The biggest motivation came as a surprise as my husband wanted to support me and do it together. When I realized that I weigh 2 pounds more than him and he is 8 inches taller…wow that was a serious kick in the butt!
After 10 minutes of the workout I had to take a break to tend to my toddler and my legs were already wobbly but boy does it feel good to FINALLY be doing something more than a dog/kid walk a few times a week.

Does any want to share what they are doing for a workout? I am using Lauren Brook’s dvd’s and I have a Bob Harper one I borrowed from my mom. I started 2 days ago and my legs are KILLING me!

I’m using Iron Core Kettlebell Starring Sarah Lurie

It’s hard but not terrible.

Some of the moves are too hard for me (like on the floor and jump back up again) so I skip those. I do what I can!

On the other post, someone posted that there is a website with very good, free workout videos, called fitnessblender. I tried the beginner one and only did 2/3 of it, and it kicked my hiney. The videos were excellent, well done, and depicted good form and the one I watched was very instructional. There were many other videos, presumably not all for beginners, so check it out.

I’m using the ones mentioned and this morning I did Jillian Michaels. It kicked my hiney. Very good. I just keep thinking that I’m glad that I’m not on the Biggest Loser with her yelling at me as I couldn’t finish one of the moves. :)

I found a good workout on you tube. It’s a cardio kettlebell workout by fitnessblender. The first day I did it I couldn’t do a lot of it and I was a little nauseous, but it has gotten better each time (I have done it 3x). It looks like fitnessblender also has another kettlebell workout on their channel.

fitnessblender actually has several kettlebell workouts, and there is a “beginner” one. On the upper right of their page, you can search keywords, and if you enter “kettlebell”, you get all of their kettlebell workouts. Enjoy!

The activity widget doesn’t seem to be working. OK, I did kettlebells for 15 minutes today. I’m going to go take my measurements now. I’ll have to get David to snap a photo tomorrow as he’s out and it’s dark now. So I’ll send photos tomorrow. I’m up for it!

I was really excited about this last year, but I was newly pregnant. Now, at 3 months postpartum, I have a great starting point with my maternity clothes still fitting better than my regular clothes as well as the appropriately sized regular clothes I’ve tried on in stores =/. I totally had to guess on my dress size.

Should I have sent more than one photo?

(also, I LOVE that you don’t accept comments in all caps!)

OH I just realized what you are talking about — the Comment Rules. I had to post that last year when I wrote some controversial posts about how I’m eating more carbs (people get upset about that) and I had to delete the super nasty angry comments. :-)

Which browser are you using? Which operating system? It’s working for me on Firefox on a Mac. Are you logging in via Facebook? That’s what I’m doing.

Hi. I’ve been contemplating doing the kettlebell challenge with you. I do go to crossfit 3-4 times a week but need to be doing something every day, I feel. I need to see reulsts, a.s.ap! Just note quite sure how this works. I send you an email with photos, stats. I get that part. But I am just not sure how I’d log my workouts? I don’t see a widget.

I feel very not-savvy right now because the widget is confusing me. Sorry! I think I just entered today’s workout. I hit that +10 button and this is what is says my recent activity is:

Mine says that under the Recent Activity link/tab. But if I click the little tab/link for Log My Workout, it has the right place to click to enter that you worked out. HTH.

This is something new with Rafflecopter. Not sure what is going on with them. Maybe I should upgrade and pay the monthly fee and see if that goes away.

I am wondering the weights will be posted. I have a lot to lose and this looks like a fun challenge, but for me that number to be out on the internet might just be too much. I wouldn’t mind the amount lost but the starting number is embarrassing. I think I have the courage for the pictures to be out there for the “world” to see.

Yes, I will post the before and after weight (pounds lost) However, I will use only your first name and if you don’t want your face on the internet, you can send me photos with body only — no head (just cut the head off before you send to me — or remind me in your email to cut the head off).

Second workout done… and I’m still alive! I am reminded though about how sore my inner thighs are after first starting working out with kettlebells. ;) It is a nice sort of pain though, the kind that comes from doing something good for my old body!

O.k., this is my fourth workout using the fitnessblender beginner routine and I just had to change it up a little: Lauren Brooks uses interval training in her kettlebell wotkouts and I like it much better. So between each exercise I pause the video, take a 40-60 second rest then hit play again. In my experience/research intervals of rest provide a better overall result. Just sayin, in case anyone else wanted to try it a bit different.

One other comment about the fitnessblender workout: the one arm rows… I can’t do them the way they do so I do them the way Lauren demonstrates: with the arm opposite the one rowing the kettlebell resting across the top of that forward lag. Those of you with stronger abs may not have any trouble doing them the way they are demonstrated in the fitnessblender video but if you ARE having difficulty with it try it this way.

Hi Anne Marie. Is the Rafflecopter widgit working correctly? I worked out and logged it yesterday, plus got the extra points for following you on FB and for being a newsletter subscriber so I had a total of 30 of 30 points yesterday. Today i worked out again and logged it, (wasnt given the option for the ither extra points, I assume because I already have them) but when my total points were calculated I again had 30 of 30. Since it;s my 2nd workout wouldn’t it be 40 of 40? Do i automatically get the extra 20 points each time i workout since I’ve already sig.ned up for the newsletter? Does the widgit only show points for the day or total points?
Found some great workouts online. Legs already sore…attempting to sit down tomorrow is going to suck. :-)

It’s 10 points to sign up, 10 points for FB, and then it’s 10 points every time you work out.

Does it keep a running total.of points? So far I’ve done two workouts, plus extra for newsletter and extra for FB which totals 40 points but the Rafflecopter only said 30.

I am with you Jill C.! It is an incredible feeling completing each workout with greater strength than the one before. Thanks also for the suggestion to look at all of fitness blender’s videos. I’ll have to try them. I am bound and determined that by the end of this challenge I will be able to complete all 10 turkish getups on each side, that are in the video. lol.

Just finished my second workout using the fitness blender beginner’s workout and loved it….. much much better than the dvd that came with my kettlebell…could listen to my favorite radio station and calmly work out…good one! Thanks…! I still can’t log in. I am just going let it go. I can post progress here and I think we are not required to, yeah? Just show the results at the end…

I have to say, it’s pretty awesome, I already feel stronger after the first week! I’m not sure if a single inch has changed on my body, but I feel more confident about my body. Here’s to another 4 weeks!

Hoping I’m not too late to enter. I have one workout I’ll have to forfeit–500 reps last Thursday. But tonight I wanted to to catch up on my own personal 10k in 30days challenge, so I did 1200 reps. 200 pass arounds, 600 one handed, and 400 two handed. In addition to a leg workout at the gym and a 5 mile run (and ok, some walking mixed in). Already sore and I am concerned about overtraining, but I’m also a working mom of 3 who REALLY relies on weekends to get my time in.

I just figured out how to log my workouts! I’ve been doing this for almost 4 weeks now and wish I would have figured this out sooner! I will be logging them daily from now on :)
