ExpoWest 2012: My Favorite Things — Part 8

by Ann Marie Michaels on April 25, 2012

ExpoWest Natural Products Convention

It’s been a while since I went to ExpoWest and I never got around to writing this post.

But I still have some companies I did not get a chance to cover and I don’t want to leave them out.

From organic salsa to flavored coconut oil born from reggae, homeopathic remedies to a great nutrition school, to a company that sells awesome grow-your-own mushroom kits, this post runs the gamut.

Everything Else

Back to the Roots Mushroom Kit

I was so psyched to meet Nikhil Arora, founder of Back to the Roots.

Back to the Roots Mushroom Kit

Nikhil and his business partner, Alejandro Velez, are making these awesome Back to the Roots Mushroom Kits. You may have seen them in health food stores (I see them everywhere). Yes, you can grow your own gourmet mushrooms in your own home with your leftover coffee grounds! How cool is that?

Check out their inpsiring TedX video — you have GOT to watch this!

Institute for Integrative Nutrition

The Institute for Integrative Nutrition is the worldʼs largest nutrition school. And they are making big waves.

Institute for Integrative Nutrition

The Institute has a very good reputation, with rock star alumni including raw food chef, Frank Giglio, and Adina Grigore, founder of Sprout Skincare.

Wildbrine

Wildbrine is a new company that has delicious fermented foods including sauerkraut, kimchi and pickles. Everything tasted amazing!

Boiron

Boiron is the leading provider of homeopathic remedies. I use their products, as I’m sure many of you do.

I especially love their Chestal cough syrup — it’s the only cough syrup we use in our home.

Brooklyn Salsa Company

We loved the salsa from Brooklyn Salsa Company!

Ziggy Marley Organics

Bob Marley’s son, Ziggy, performed at ExpoWest (we missed him because we were in bed by 10 pm).

He also has an organic food company, Ziggy Marley Organics. They make flavored coconut oil.

Ziggy Marley Organics

I loved the Orange-Almond flavor, as well as the Lemon-Ginger.

I’m not sure which stores they are in yet, but you can contact them here: Ziggy Marley Organics.

Thanks so much for these posts. I’m finding your blog soooo helpful with my foray into traditional foods. My health food store here in California actually carries wildbrine products and I’m so happy. I’m trying to be realistic about what I can and can’t do with my job, and even though I’ve been hardcore about cutting out all crap and only eating traditional foods, I haven’t jumped into fermenting yet. One thing at a time. wildbrine krauts are so so super yummy. My first one was the dill and garlic and I’m now working on the beet and cabbage. Mmmm!
