Time for another giveaway! Essential Eating is giving away a package of their fabulous sprouted foods.
The package includes 4 boxes of sprouted flour pasta and 2 boxes of sprouted cereal — retail value of $36 (including free shipping). This giveaway will run through February 6th, 2013 at midnight EST.
Essential Eating sent me a box of their pasta and cereal and I have to tell you, this stuff is AWESOME.
Finally! A Sprouted Whole Grain Pasta
Here’s my pasta dilemma: For years, I bought brown rice pasta because it’s more nutritious than white flour pasta. Recently I’ve stopped buying brown rice pasta recently due to the news that most brown rice has high levels of arsenic.
So lately, I’ve been buying pasta made with white flour, which is not as nutritious as eating whole grains.
Essential Eating Sprouted Flour Pasta for the win! Their new line of pasta is not only organic and whole grain, but it’s also sprouted.
Essential Eating carries sprouted spaghetti, linguini, elbow macaroni, and penne. It’s whole grain and 100% organic.
I love having a cupboard full of pasta for those nights you need a fast dinner. You can whip up an easy Mac & Cheese or Pasta with Meat Sauce in 20 minutes.
The Essential Eating Sprouted Cereal is also fantastic. I actually like it better than oatmeal. It tastes just like the good old fashioned Cream of Wheat my mom used to make when I was a kid — only it’s a billion times fresher and more flavorful.
My 5-year-old, who always begs for cereal, loves the Essential Eating Sprouted Cereal, too. Now I have a fast and easy breakfast option that our whole family loves.
Why Sprout Whole Grains?
Humans have been soaking grains for thousands of years. Soaking grains has been practiced by every culture around the world that has subsisted on grains.
Doesn’t that blow your mind? Every culture. And we wonder why we have so much gluten intolerance today?
In addition to vitamins and minerals, whole grains contain phytic acid and other anti-nutrients. Unless phytic acid is broken down, it blocks the absorption of important minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium and zinc.
When we eat whole grains, we’re eating the bran, or the outer part of the grain. That’s where the anti-nutrients like phytic acid are contained. To get optimal nutrition from whole grains, it is best to sprout and/or soak whole wheat, oatmeal, corn, brown rice and other whole grains.

These are gluten free correct?? If they are I’m SOOO looking into getting some! I love that they’re sprouted-every nut or bean we buy I sprout before eating. Very interesting, and thanks for the giveaway!
No they are not gluten-free. They are made from sprouted wheat and spelt.
Thanks!
Mmmm, linguine is my favorite!
This woman (Janie Quinn) is the catalyst for my holistic/eating transformation. I have all of her books and she is amazing . . . just like you! Great giveaway! I hope to win, but I would like to try these in any event. THANK YOU!!!!!
AM- Like you, I used brown rice pasta for a good long time until I read about the arsenic thing. But when I switched over to whole wheat pastas, the family complained that the nutty taste of the pasta was taking away from the flavor of the sauce, whether it was a nice meaty spagetti sauce or a vodka sauce. I think I could have buried the pasta in chocolate sauce and they would have still complained!
Do you find that the sprouted wheat pasta has a milder taste more akin to white pasta?
Not Ann Marie, but thought I should chime in here…
From my research, it seems that whole grains are NOT healthy at all. Bran is bad, bad, bad for digestion (see, for example, _Fiber Menace_).

As you can see, even sprouted grains aren’t that great either. The best preparation method is:
– Start with sprouted whole grains
– Freshly grind said grains
– Sieve the hell out of the grains, so that the consistently is more like all-purpose flour
– Soak/ferment the grains
– Enjoy
All I wanted ot know is what the sprouted pasta tastes like……
Susan I was thinking the same thing! I have the same issue with my hubby and whole grain pasta and I want to know if these taste any better than normal whole grain pasta…at any rate I bought some at my wegmans today and will let you know how they taste!
What a sweetie you are! Thanks, Tina!
Hi Susan and Tina, Essential Eating Sprouted Pastas are THE gold standard for whole grain pastas, hands down. They cook in 6 minutes, are organic, kosher & GMO-free, and they don’t have that gritty, sandy, hard-to-chew texture and sour taste that you may have experienced with other whole grain pastas. Some of my family (die-hard Italians) has tried the Essential Eating pastas and were blown away, stating that it tasted better than the white pasta they are so used to! I cannot say enough great things about this pasta. It’s the only kind I’ll eat! AND it digests like a veggie, not a starch!
Hi Susan!
I made the pasta tonight (penne) and I was pretty happy with it. I served it with a heavy venison marinara sauce and I couldn’t taste the nutty flavor from the pasta at all…it held up to my husband’s approval too! The only thing is is that it is very similar in texture to whole grain pasta which makes sense because it is! You can definitely tell you’re not eating white pasta, but it’s not as bad as regular whole grain pasta. I don’t know if you have ever tried the ezekiel brand sprouted pasta but this pasta is much nicer than that. This will definitely be a pasta I will purchase again, yes it’s a little chewier than white pasta, but the flavor is great and best of all is sprouted! Good luck if you decide to try it
Tina
I also cooked it a little paste al dente, about 7 minutes, for what it’s worth!! Good luck!
Thanks Tina and Christy for filling me in! I really appreciate the time each of you took to share your experiences with me. And people say that chivalry is dead! Ha! They need to meet you two!
Hello, I just signed up for the Essential Eating Newsletter…
Many thanks, Cindi
YUM. TY so much for finding sprouted products, that are organic.
Just signed up for their newsletter and would love to try the sprouted
cereal(s). I loved cream of wheat growing up.
Great giveaway.
~Judy in MI~ (-_-)
I bet the sprouted puffs are really yummy too. Has anyone tried those yet?
~Judy in MI~ (-_-) I have had spelt pretzels that were good , but were not sprouted.
Hi Anne Marie! I am currently doing Gaps Intro. I will eventually do full Gaps. Can this be consumed? If not, it is a healthy alternative for the rest of my family. Thanks again, for yet another wonderful “offering.” : )
Hi, I am on GAPS as well and can’t do grains yet, but I just saw the sprouted spelt cereal in the store and bought it for my daughter. Can’t wait for her to try it and would love for her and other non-GAPS family members to try these other organic, sprouted foods. Thanks Anne Marie!
Wow, that’s what I was exploring for, what a material! present here at this web site, thanks admin of this site.
All signed up! I’m all for sprouting because I’m not eating enough of it. This is a little off the subject but I have trouble sprouting pumpkin seeds. It takes a few days and by the time I think I see sprouts they feel all mushy.
We were brown rice pasta people, too. While the arsenic news disturbed me, we still eat it, just not as often. I am so glad you discovered this sprouted foods company and my husband is excited, too, as he misses his morning “porridge.” Thank you so, so much for sharing!
Never had any of these pastas but I’m sure looking forward to trying them.
Hi I signed up for the news letter. Thanks!
Ludicrously excellent article. You need to give some thought to writing full time.
Quick question though, how do you fight spam feedback? My site is swamped every
minute and my plugin isn’t doing a great job of sorting the genuine from the fake. Any suggestions?
Valuable info. Lucky me I found your site unintentionally, and I’m shocked why this accident didn’t happened earlier! I bookmarked it.|
