I was just at Costco wanting a Vitamix!
Is it just me or can any one else not see the widget today!?

Are either of you on an iPad? I am on a PC right now and can see it fine but about 90% of the time when I’m on my iPad I can never see the widgets. Can be frustrating

I would LOVE to add a Vitamix to my kitchen. I have been healing my body the last year and a half with whole foods. After being sent home with prescriptions and NEVER given advice to change my diet, I am off all my asthma medications and no longer have GI issues, JUST by changing my diet!!! If I win I would be making every Vitamix recipe out there! Try out some of “n*nj* recipes from the free kindle book and then we would start going through all those smoothie recipes I have piling up. DH doesn’t like to detect seeds or anything in his smoothies so it is hard to make ones he likes without a high power blender.

WOW, I would really like to win this because today is my little one’s fifth birthday! Why is this significant? Well, she nearly didn’t survive her first week of life. When she was just a few days old, she became unresponsive and quit breathing. She was rushed to the ER at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and ended up having to undergo hemo-dialysis just to stabilize her. She spent the next several weeks recovering in the NICU. The nurses there told me she was probably the sickest baby they had ever had! This crisis left her with severe developmental delay and brain encephalepathy. Testing revealed that she has an inborn error of metabolism called methylmalonic acidemia, or MMA. Simply put, she cannot process certain amino acids in protein resulting in an over-accumulation of toxins in her system. Even with treatment, the condition is generally fatal, and according to the existing medical literature, the median lifespan is only about 6 years of age.
Because this is such a rare condition, traditional medical protocol doesn’t offer much hope to the families of children diagnosed with MMA. We restrict protein intake, supplement with carnitine, and pray everyday that something will not trigger another crisis. Day-to-day life means continuous vigilance. The only “treatment” we have to look forward to is a double organ transplant when the liver and kidney fail, and even that will not ‘cure’ it. There is no cure.
Dissatisfied with this prognosis, I have been on a quest to find alternative answers. For the greater part of these last five years, I have been diligently reading and researching all I can in order to understand this thing and to look “outside the box” for a possible solution. During this time, I have been introduced to the Weston A. Price Foundation and the idea that real, whole, nutrient dense foods can nourish, sustain, and even heal the body! Something clicked for me! Nutrition is the key component and the cornerstone to health and wellness! I’ve been slowly implementing some of these real food concepts into my family’s diet and we are making positive progress. Let me put it this way; before real foods, my daughter’s average hospitalizations were 2-3 times per year, now, it’s been well over 2 years since our last hospital stay! We gotta be getting something right, and I firmly believe it’s the nutrition!
Right now she receives all of her nutrition through a g-tube, although recently I have been able to feed her egg yolks by mouth. One of my biggest dreams and goals for her is to GET HER OFF OF her prescription formula. So the Vitamix would be really useful in achieving that goal, since I would be able to liquefy foods and feed them through her tube. Soon I will be launching my own real foods blog, ResoluteDawn.com, where I will be sharing our journey and what is working for us. I hope to join the Village Green Network, since all of those bloggers have been so inspiring to me!
