Kelly the Kitchen Kop Does L.A.

by Ann Marie Michaels on April 27, 2009

Kelly the Kitchen Kop flew in Sunday morning and we drove straight to the Hollywood farmer’s market.

Within one hour of landing, Kelly was eating her first raw oyster.

We met with Maurice of Organic Pastures Dairy

and Jack Bezian of Bezian’s Bakery (he’s the one who makes the amazing sourdough bread)…

We got some fabulous strawberries from this booth:

That night, we went to Grace and I got Kelly to try (for the first time ever) foie gras, raw fish (hamachi sashimi), prosecco (Italian sparkling wine), and wild boar. She was not thrilled about the idea of trying these things — but she was a trooper. And she didn’t hate them. In fact, she loved pretty much everything.

Of course, Chef Neal Fraser is a genius. So how could she not love his cooking?

She said the oysters at the farmer’s market were just OK — but she said she’s still craving them. We’re going back Wednesday to get some more.

The next day we headed to Malibu to sit in the sunshine with our feet in the sand. We were right on the ocean, watching the waves crest, lying on beds with pillows. Yes, they had beds on the beach.

Nerds that we are, we sat around reading our Wise Traditions (WAPF) quarterly journals, talking about cod liver oil and high fructose corn syrup.

Then we got some grub. Kelly ate a crap sandwich (eww BBQ chicken) but I had this:

Raw oysters, scallop ceviche, crab, shrimp, mussels, calamari, and smoked salmon. Woo! Was it GOOD!

Tomorrow we head down to Newport Beach for the film festival to see Food Fight and FRESH. More posts to come soon…

Wish you guys were all here with us! We’d all have a blast at the movies today!

I’m taking Kelly to Chef Nobu’s restaurant, Matsuhisa, in Beverly Hills for sushi before we head down to the film festival.

Tamara – I forwarded your info to the director.

Yes we are going to swing by the farmer’s market. Kelly has to load up her suitcase with Bezian’s Bakery bread. :-)

I’m so jealous of your Farmer’s Market! That seafood salad looks amazing. Can’t believe it was Kelly’s first raw oyster, those are heaven.

You guys so remind me of my friend Maria & I! I call her the food adventurer, and I’m constantly telling her she must journey on alone…but I’m catching up…slowly. Looks like so much fun, and hanging out at the beach reading Wise Traditions, talking about cod liver & HFCS, we’re definitely kindred spirits! I don’t even need to tell you to have fun, you’re on top of that!
