It’s Day 14 of the Kettlebell Challenge!

I’ll be honest… If it weren’t for you guys, I definitely would have quit by now.

This has been a tough couple of weeks for me. I’m launching a new online cooking class, Healthy Whole Grains, and I’ve been having lots of technical issues. Blah blah blah. We all have our excuses, right?

Anyhow, I’m sad to say that I’ve only done ONE stinking kettlebell workout in the past two weeks.

I have been doing my diastasis recti exercises almost daily, and I ordered the diastasis recti splint which should come next week. But I need to catch up with the kettlebell workouts.

It was an email from a reader telling me that she was losing POUNDS and INCHES (hooray!!!) that lit the fire under my butt to get going again.

So thank you guys!

I have 3 more weeks to get busy. I CAN do this!

I’m going to start logging workouts to catch up and I’ll be posting again in the next few days to let you know how I’m doing. Please comment below about how YOU are doing!

I haven’t done as many kettlebell workouts as I’d like either. I’ve done about 4 I think. But I’ve also been walking- interspersed with jogging- with my dogs because the vet said they need to lose weight too. I think the two are helping. My size 12 pants need a belt when they were fine pre-challenge. But my belly pooch hasn’t budged yet. I think that will take a while longer. Did u want before and after pics together or should I send “before” pics first?

I haven’t ponied up for a home kettle bell yet, so I have been going to the kb class at my gym. Three hours so far and, boy, can I FEEL it! My last class was Thursday and it still hurts to get out of bed. That “good” kind of soreness that tells me the workout is worthwhile. I am really feeling a tightening and strengthening of my core, inner thighs and glutes. The classes are great for community and gives you that competitive drive to push yourself. I am going to stick with it and keep my eye out for a used 30 pound KB.

Good for you! What size kettlebell are you using?

I think I am going to get a bigger one — I’m using 10 lbs. Maybe I should get a 20 lb one? Or a 30 lb one?

In the class, we use the 10 pound ones for shoulder presses and other arm work. For swings and squats, I like the 30 pound KB. Some if the women use even heavier weights than the men for lower body work because we are blessed with strong legs. For now, the 30 is enough for me!

Okay, so I have been researching kettle bells — so much so that I dreamt about them last night. The general consensus seems to be for healthy women without recent weight training to start with an 18 pound (8 kg) kb. For those women who are pretty strong or have been training with weights, start with a 26 pound (12 kg) kb. The 26 pound is good for my swings and squats but pretty darn heavy if I want to do a snatch. If I could afford it now, I think that I would get both. I ended up ordering the highest quality but decently priced 26 pound kb from Budovideo.com. It is the Kaizen Athletic vinyl coated bell. If you live in the Garden
Gove area, you can get well-reviewed bells there super cheap. The shipping charges brought my total to $60, but the kettlebell itself was only $31.00. The 18 pounder is only $20.00!

Found your website a couple of weeks ago, and discovered your Kettlebell challenge a week after that! I have been in a workout rut, so I decided to take your challenge. Just got my kettlebells yesterday and I started my first workout with them today. Looking forward to change up in my routine and to a healthy body and nice muscles! :) Thanks for the challege!

You’re right, one is better than zero–progress not perfection, as the fly lady says. After my workout cleaning the house (3 kids out with dad for soccer), I will do my kb workout.

I haven’t been able to workout w/the kettlebells at all yet. I finally got my DVD late last wk…thanks to the delay in mail due to the snowstorm in Seattle. I was all ready to go & then my family got sick this week. We are feeling better & it’s time to get my butt in gear! Anne Marie – Thanks for the update & your honesty…it’s hard finding time for ourselves when life happens! Good luck to you! :)

I feel discouraged! I’ve been faithfully doing a 30 minute kb workout every other day for 3 weeks, and have gained 3 pounds. I know muscle is heavier, but I really do have 10-15 pounds to lose. I have been hungrier, so maybe I am eating too much. Is this typical? I know the workouts are great, and I won’t stop, but I would love to shed a few pounds! Thanks for the challenge… I need that kind of motivation!

Oh but don’t you feel so much stronger? I know that when I work out regularly I usually don’t lose weight but I look better and feel so much stronger and more confident. Have you taken measurements of anything? I bet your body has definitely changed shape if not weight. :)

I would stop weighing yourself.

Weight means NOTHING. Muscle is heavier than fat!

Measure yourself with a tape measure instead.

Haha! I did it the first day, and then I was so sore for the next three days. I just couldn’t bring myself to do it again. So I’ve been doing cardio and then doing the first 10-12 minutes of the kettlebell video. I’ll work up to the whole thing. :)

10-12 minutes is better than nothing! I skip all the “powerjacks” in my work out. ANd I don’t do any of her ab exercises — I just do “cat vomit” instead.

It’s not going well for me. I’ve been doing the workouts every other day and I walk on my off days…and I’ve had no results at all. So now I have no motivation to workout (because I really don’t like working out, but have been doing it in hopes of losing some weight or inches)…today’s a kettlebell day, and I’m just not feeling up to it…but hopefully I’ll pull it together and get the workout in. I hope other people have had more success than I have. I really hope that my after picture doesn’t look exactly like my before picture, but I think it probably will.

I don’t have any results either and I haven’t been very good about doing it but I’m going to pick up the pace. I think it takes a little while to see results anyway. Keep at it! You are doing GREAT!

I have been interspersing kettlebell workouts with walks, pilates, and spin. I started with a ten pound kb, then to 15, and now I have a 20 lb. I feel sore and sometimes my knee and hip joints hurt after doing too many squats and lunges. I feel great other than the soreness. I am not sure I have lost much weight or inches–maybe two pounds and a half inch on my waist. I like that I have to check in, though. It really motivates me. So far, I have only missed 2 or 3 days of exercise. I love it.

Wonderful!!! How long did it take you to work up to a 15 pound and then 20 pound kettlebell?

After a little over a week I found the 10 pounder to be too light. I moved to a fifteen pounder and it seemed light, so I moved to a 20 pounder, which is a bit heavy for me, but it works.

I have been doing 3 kettlebell workouts a week. Since I am new to kettlebells, My husband and I are doing sets of swings with a minute of rest between. By the time 20 minutes are up I am exhausted to the bone. The other days I fill with some other activity. Not losing weight (been on a stall since Christmas- which sucks since i have almost 100 pounds to go). Hoping to see some difference with the measuring tape and hopefully kick the weight loss back into gear.

I LOVE my Kettlebell, I find the swings so much fun to do and can not wait to learn new ways to play with it once I master the swing. I already found my 10 pounder much too light and moved up to a 25 pounder. So much fun :)

Not long at all. It was obvious after my first workout that the 10 pounder was a little too light for me. It just felt like I wasn’t pushing my limit with it. So during my second workout I spent a few sets with my husbands 25 pound kettlebell. I was surprised that I could swing it with good form- I thought it would be too heavy!

So we went out and got my husband a 35 pound kettlebell and I moved into his 25. It takes concentration to keep good form and pushes me to my limits. I tried to swing his 35 pounder and I failed miserably. lol. So 25 seems to be a good weight for me right now. I think I will try out new movements with the 10 pounder first and then move up.

I have tried to do the kettlebell dvd at least 2x week with a different Jillian MIchaels dvd on each day. I haven’t taken my measurments so I really don’t know if I lost any inches yet. I did start the 4 hour Body diet this week and lost 4 pounds. Today is my cheat day. Should be fun to see what happens by next Saturday.

Such public honesty is a rare and beautiful thing Ann Marie. You inspire in more ways than one!
I had a couple setbacks myself: first I had all the amalgams on the lower half of my mouth removed week one (had the other half done this past fall, so now I am done… hallelujah!) and that knocked me back a couple days in recovery and then I fell (icy parking lot) and THAT set me back another good week!
I did walk forty-five minutes several days this week so I am getting back into the groove. Time to get the kettlebell going again, I think my back has recovered enough for at least some sets of swings.
I was feeling like a failure until your post popped in my inbox… thanks for the encouragement!

I think I’ve done about 7-8 actual kettle bell workouts. This has been the first attempt of exercise since having my son almost 2 years ago. Also throw in some days of cardio. I honestly don’t see a difference yet (maybe in my arms) but I love the workouts! I have a Jillian Michaels video and the one that came with my bell. I am just so grateful to have been introduced to the workout and for the kick start to exercise again. I am going to try a little harder to fit in workouts for the last three remaining weeks. I work FT out of the home and have to rely on my son going to bed on time and staying to bed to workout.

I have been doing really great a working out, but I’m not seeing the results. I do the Kettlebell Sunday, Tuesday, & Thursday. I run on the treadmill on Monday, do the elliptical on Wednesday, and Aqualogix on Friday. Saturday is my day off. I’m eating according to the Page Diet. I really think my Mirena is causing the lack of results since I was losing steadily before its insertion. Does anyone else have experience with this? Since the Page Diet is built around balancing your hormones naturally, I feel that the Mirena is throwing everything off. So frustrating!

Are you still wearing your diastasis band 24/7? After about the first week of wearing mine, I began to wish I had two or three to rotate them. Now into week three or fOur, I don’t want to wear it any more as it feels totally different, has lost its shape and is challenging to connect the Velcro to the band without it scratching my skin. I saw results in about two days, but feel I need to keeP wearing it for the entire six weeks, plus wearing it does help me to remember to do the exercises. I’d love to hear your review of the band.
