Sometimes It’s Hard To Be a Blogger

We got home from vacation last Thursday night. I had a whole bunch of posts scheduled for the three weeks of May that I would be gone.

Unfortunately, my RSS feed broke a few days after I flew to Portugal. And I had no idea. I was trying to be good so I was not checking my feed or doing any work.

The result: there have been no Feedburner emails going out for 26 days! That’s what I get for trying to go on vacation, huh?

I spent over six hours yesterday and this morning trying to fix the RSS feed. Yeah, fun times! The good news is I finally fixed it.

Yay, me! I win the nerd prize this week. Turns out there was a plugin that had not been upgraded and when the new WordPress version was upgraded, it broke the feed. It only took obsessive googling and reading about 17,000 forum threads and blog posts to finally figure out how to fix the darn thing.

Anyway, I’m sorry for the inconvenience. I’m just so glad it’s finally fixed!

Just this morning I was wondering why I never received things from you anymore! I’ve been staying current with you through Facebook, but I couldn’t figure out why no new posts were coming via email. I thought you divorced me!! :)

Welcome home, by the way. I hope you returned rested, relaxed and pregnant! (Sorry, couldn’t resist, but that would be too cool!)

I look forward to you getting some juicy posts up that will get people all riled up! So, let’s have some carb talk…… Maybe even Gwen will drop by and drop the F bomb for us!

Haha! I thought everyone was sick of reading my blog. I was hardly getting any comments.

Not pregnant yet — long story re: health insurance hassles.

LOL @ Gwen and the F bomb!!!!

I was actually going to email to find out why I was not seeing your posts come through my inbox, but never got around to it! Glad you figured it out though! :)

Ann Marie,

Aren’t you glad you didn’t know this while you were on vacation? You would have been stressed out and probably would have been trying to figure out how to fix it from Lisbon. Much better that you found out after the fact! :) Sounds like you had a fabulous trip!

Of course you’re right! I probably would have spent 6 hours while on vacation trying to fix it.

OR it would have been hanging over my head the whole time.

SOOO glad I did not know!

No problem, Ann Marie. I was wondering why I wasn’t getting any updates. We gets TONS of junk mail and I was hoping my husband hadn’t accidentally “junked” your posts. ;-) I even re-subscribed to your newsletter.

All is well that ends well. I am glad you had a vacation!! You deserve it. Take time for yourself and stop and smell the roses. I can wait a day or 2 for a post!! It just makes it all the more exciting to get it!

Thank you for your hard work to keep us all informed.

You know what, it’s all good. We don’t need to be plugged in 24/7. My theory about blogs is: it’s like college friends. I may not talk to them weekly but we’re still friends and we catch up when we can. All good!

Oh wow, I’ve been wondering where you were! And also have been wondering why my RSS hasn’t been working. I do NOT win the nerd prize, because I have not been able to figure it out. I’ve even completely update my blog and couldn’t get it working, so perhaps THAT’S why.

99.9% of the time — it is a plugin to blame. That is what I re-learned today

Here’s my favorite quote from The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel: “Everything will be alright in the end. If it is not alright, it is not the end.”
Pretty much how your blog posts worked out, right? Glad to see you back… I’ve missed you!

You know, I actually kind of enjoyed having all your posts show up at once. It was sort of like reading…a book.
*wink wink*
*nudge nudge*

…It would be awesome…. :)

Ha! We’ll see about that… maybe once I can get the blog network running mostly on its own

I don’t understand much about these things, but I think I got all of these posts while you were away. I was thinking – “Why’s the girl working while she’s on vacation?”

I had the same issue on my blog right after updating wordpress – but haven’t had a chance to deal with it yet. Is there anyone that wrote a post how to fix this?

Reply

cheeseslave June 6, 2012 at 8:32 AM

No, that’s why it took reading 17,000 blog posts for me to fix it.

For me it was the Advanced Permalinks plugin. Turn off all your plugins and then reenable them one at a time.

You may also have to copy all the Wordpress core files over AFTER you’ve deactivated all plugins. (That’s what I had to do to get it to work)

Hey we need to get you to join RFM — that way you can be on our private forum where we all talk about stuff like this all the time. Email me and let’s talk!

Glad to have your posts back. Computer technology is both wonderful and awful at the same time. sigh.
