This is the first in my series of frugal and nutritious recipes. Since my goal is to cut my food budget in half, I am going to be making meals that are less expensive but still very nutritious.
Hamburger meat is a classic budget-friendly staple. Of course, I only use organic grass-fed beef from local farmers, [...]

At the WAPF Wise Traditions conference this year, they had a whole series of lectures on iodine deficiency. Contrary to popular belief, iodine deficiency is widespread in America. Iodine deficiency causes all sorts of health problems, including thyroid disease, cancer, and Down’s Syndrome.
Why are so many people iodine deficient? First of all, most of us [...]

We had lunch at the snack bar at the pool yesterday. It struck me how impossible it is to avoid the bad fats that cause cancer and heart disease.
Here’s what was on the menu:
Burgers (cooked in corn/soybean oil)
French fries (cooked in corn/soybean oil)
Salads (with salad dressing made from soybean oil)
Tunafish (with mayonnaise made from soybean [...]

I’m in bread heaven right now.
Seriously. This is the best bread I’ve eaten since I was in Germany 16 years ago. Actually, this bread is better.
I just sat down to a classic German breakfast. At least, this was the breakfast we had every morning when I visited Germany. Whole grain rye bread with cheese (they [...]

Kate and I are leaving tomorrow morning on a trip to Dallas to be with family and help out with the crisis that’s going on. While we are there, we will be spending some time in the pool, and going on walks.
So we’re going to get some sun. And lots of it! But we won’t [...]

I seriously feel like I am dying. HOLY MOLEY do I feel bad!
I started taking iodine drops yesterday. Not a lot. Yesterday I took about 5 grams and this morning I took about 10 grams.
The Japanese traditionally consume about 13 grams of iodine per day. They eat a lot of fish, seaweed, and fish broth.
They [...]

I loved doing science experiments when I was a kid. I did one in which I tested the effects of talking to plants and playing music in the greenhouse. My mom gave me some of her basil plants. I kept them separated, but gave them all the same amount of water, sunshine, etc.
I yelled at [...]

It worked!
Just two days of using distilled water on my hair instead of tap water and it is 95% less greasy. That was the answer.
Seth thinks I’ve lost my mind. He keeps asking me, “Why don’t you just wash your hair with shampoo?”
When I told him what I figured out about the hard water, he [...]

Oh my goodness! I am so excited about the new personal care products that just came in the mail.
I know, that’s a dorky thing to say. Who gets excited about personal care products?
The thing is, I’ve been researching all this stuff for a while and almost all of the personal care products we use are [...]

A new study from the National Cancer Institute is proclaiming that eating red meat causes cancer.
This kind of study really bugs me. The science behind it is so profoundly flawed.
They followed a population and studied their eating habits and then concluded that the people with the highest cancer rates were the people eating the most [...]
