If you read my blog regularly, you know I love eggs. We typically go through about 3-4 dozen eggs per week. Our little family consisting of 2 adults and one toddler. Eggs are one of the most economical ways to increase the nutrients in your family’s diet. Eggs are full of vitamin D, vitamin A, vitamin E, omega 3 fatty acids, beta carotene, cholesterol (which is good for you), and saturated fat (also good for you). Why Pastured Eggs? I don’t just buy any eggs. I only buy pastured eggs from local farmers who keep their chickens outdoors and let them roam around in the sun, eating bugs.

Oysters for Breakfast at the Farmer’s Market

Oysters for breakfast

Every Saturday morning, Kate and I go to the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market and eat oysters for breakfast. This is a photo of her last weekend. She looks cranky but it’s really impatience. You can see the pile of shells on her lap, and she’s pointing and saying, “More!”

She always draws a crowd when she eats oysters at the market. People are stunned that a toddler would willingly eat raw oysters. But why not? I figure if I get her hooked on them now, maybe she’ll love them for the rest of her life — just like her father and I do.

Just got back from our Saturday morning visit to the farmer’s market and I’m thinking about what I’m going to cook this week. Rocky Canyon had beef tongue, which I plan to use for tacos. I also got a dozen oysters and five pounds of mussels for dinner tonight. I bought a duck to roast [...]

Here’s Kate and Cara (Annie’s daughter) this morning at the farmer’s market in Santa Monica. Cara’s eating fresh organic strawberries. I’m so excited! I just happened to turn on the radio (I have Sirius radio in the kitchen — it’s wonderful) and guess what’s on? Kelly O’Hara, star of “South Pacific” on Fresh Air! I [...]

It’s going to be a busy day. Heck, it’s been a busy day already. Kate and I got up at 6:30. She had her bottle, I had my Dandy Blend, and then I got dressed and made breakfast while she watched Muzzy. We got to the farmer’s market a little after it opened (around 8:45) [...]

Kate

Yesterday morning Kate and I got dressed and headed over to the local farmer’s market early. We got a big flat of strawberries from our local organic farm so I could make strawberry ice cream. She tasted feta cheese and then we got to visit the petting zoo. They don’t always have a petting zoo [...]
