Homemade Chicken Nuggets

Chicken nuggets: quite possibly the all-time favorite meal among kids in America. I don’t know anyone under 10 who doesn’t love chicken nuggets. The problem with most chicken nuggets is they are full of junk like MSG, trans fats, and petrochemicals. And of course the chicken is usually from battery chickens from factory farms, which are pumped full of hormones and antibiotics and fed genetically modified corn and soybeans. Here’s an easy, healthy recipe for homemade chicken nuggets that children will love.

ACT NOW: Email Kansas Gov. Sebelius — No Growth Hormones in Milk!

Email Kansas Governor Sebelius: No Growth Hormones in Milk!

We’re not in Kansas anymore. In other words, Kansas is no longer the idyllic land of milk and honey it once was. Oh sure, they still have milk. But now their milk can be full of drugs — hazardous growth hormones — and they won’t know. If we don’t act quickly, the labels are coming off in Kansas.

Unless Governor Kathleen Sebelius vetoes it before April 16th, a Kansas bill would restrict any national US dairy from properly labeling their milk products as free from genetically engineered bovine growth hormone (rbGH or rbST).

Amber Waves of Soybeans

We’re going home to California tomorrow. Before we go, I wanted to share a few photographs I took today of my family’s hometown, Oregon, Ohio.
Oregon is just outside of Toledo, just south of Lake Erie. Our family has lived here for generations. My great grandfather and my grandfather were farmers until they got driven [...]

Are Vegetarians Bad for the Environment?

Smart Bacon = Stupid Soy

I’m always reading about people eating less meat in order to reduce their carbon footprint. These people say that the most important thing you can do to help the environment is to go vegetarian.
For example, Kelly Freston wrote this article last year in the Huffington Post: Vegetarian is the New Prius:
Last month, the United [...]

Look, Mom — No Cavities!

Look, Mom -- no cavities!

I went to the dentist today. And guess what? No cavities!
This is the first time I’ve had no cavities in years. And you would think that I would be more prone to dental decay — considering the stress I’ve had on my body over the past year (childbirth, breast feeding).
Here’s the interesting thing… For the [...]

Here is a great video explaining the problems of GM foods globally:

Also, here’s a link to The Dying Fields, a PBS documentary about the suicides among farmers in India. There is a suicide every eight hours.
You can watch the whole thing online.

An Open Letter to Hillary Clinton

web stats analysis

I know a lot of you out there like Hillary. After all, she won the California and New York primaries.
But the Clinton family (like the Bushes) have some dirty little secrets. Namely their ties to truly evil multinational corporations like Monsanto.
Sorry to disappoint, but I gotta post the truth.
What follows is a really well-written letter [...]

So I’ve been thinking a lot about my garden. One of the New Year’s resolutions I have for this year is to vastly increase my vegetable and herb gardens. I also want to grow a lot more flowers.
I was pondering buying some fancy composting equipment but now I’m thinking maybe I don’t need it after [...]
