We are lucky in California. Unlike some states in this country, raw milk is legal here. We can buy it at Whole Foods and other health food stores.
I believe so strongly in the nutritional superiority of raw grass-fed milk, we simply must have it. I refuse to buy pasteurized milk — ever.
However, it’s pretty [...]

I spent most of my time at the WAPF Wise Traditions Conference meeting with sponsors. And my photos reflect that. Here are some pictures I took of all the wonderful people who bring us food and books and supplements, etc.:
Dave Wetzel of Green Pasture Products (makers of the fermented cod liver oil and butter oil):
At [...]

Mark McAfee, farmer and owner of Organic Pastures Dairy (pictured above with his supporters at the Senate hearings in June 2008), posted the following two comments on The Complete Patient blog today:
1. SB 201 (with a new number and name) will be revived in January 2009 with renewed life and vigor.
Until then, we survive [...]

“This bill weakens food safety standards in California, something I cannot support,” Mr. Schwarzenegger says in his veto message.
From what I understand, it’s just the opposite. SB 201 actually strengthened the safety of raw milk by making the testing much more rigorous.
Ironically, it was just a few months ago that Governor Schwarzenegger declared June [...]

Yes, cheeseburgers are healthy!
This is a burger made with grass-fed beef (from Organic Pastures in California), with raw milk cheese (from the Amish in PA), organic fruit-sweetened ketchup and organic mustard, and homemade lacto-fermented pickles. I cooked the burger in a little duck fat.
No bun. Kate doesn’t eat grains yet. I’m not going to give [...]

I cannot even express how awesome it was to watch the victory for raw milk at the state capitol in Sacramento yesterday.
Here’s my photo essay of what happened:
Annie was at my house at 5 am sharp, her kids buckled into their car seats in the back seat. I got Kate loaded into the car, with [...]

Annie and I are hitting the road tomorrow morning at 5 am, backseat packed to the gills with car seats, a cooler full of raw milk and snacks, and our three little girls.
We are so excited!
Annie said, “I’ve never done anything like this before!”
I have participated in my share of political protests and demonstrations. I [...]

I saw my girlfriend, Annie this morning at the farmer’s market and we decided to take a road trip up to Sacramento on Tuesday. We’re going to the State Capitol Building for the raw milk hearing. (Now I just have to convince Seth. I intend to ply him with French Fries, which I’m making tonight.)
We’re [...]

I’ve been thinking about this question a lot lately. How do you choose the best food to buy when weighing local vs. nutrition vs. cost?
There are a lot of people these days who are trying to eat a local diet. Local means eating food that was produced within 100 miles of your home.
There are online [...]

I’m making:
Lasagna (made with organic grass-fed beef, tomato sauce, rice pasta, and freshly grated ricotta, mozzarella and Parmesan cheese)
Garden Cress, Tomato, and Fennel Salad (with oil and vinegar dressing)
