Video: Weston A. Price Foundation Attacks 2010 USDA Dietary Guidelines

It’s time to kick the pyramid to the curb!

Learn why butter and salt are good for you. See why the USDA-recommended “low-fat, high-fiber, low-salt, puritanical diet” is contributing to cancer, heart disease, obesity, infertility, low-growth rate, diabetes, and a whole host of other health problems — and, according to Sally Fallon Morell, “impossible to eat”.

This video is two hours long — but it’s really worth watching. I think you will enjoy it.

Click the play button to watch:

This Valentine’s Day Press Conference was held in Washington, DC sponsored by The Weston A. Price Foundation, and included the Nutrition and Metabolism Society and members of the Healthy Nation Coalition.

The conference was held to expose the flaws and misuse of science in the formation of our nation’s dietary guidelines, which have resulted in a 30-year decline in our nation’s health.

Thank you! I wouldn’t have access to this video otherwise. I also did a post about the new dietary guidelines (in fact it is taking up so much of my time, I’m having to separate the posts in parts!), and there is SO much information that is being recycled. Don’t they realize this information hasn’t helped our health, and has actually degraded the health of America?

Thank you so much, Ann Marie — I have publicized this as a result of your post.

“What has happened with the dietary guidelines is that they preach a kind of low-fat, high-fiber, low-salt, puritanical diet that is impossible to eat. We have cravings for these kind of foods because we need these foods. We need saturated fats, we need salt in the diet. And people try to go on this puritanical diet and they just can’t stay on it and the result is that people end up eating what I call pornographic foods. This happens at schools as well. They get the puritanical lunch and then at 2:00 in the afternoon these starving children are at the vending machines eating pornographic foods. Why not just feed our children, feed every body, good, rich, nourishing, nutritious foods that our ancestors ate.” Sally Fallon Morell, February 14, 2011

Is it known what the press response was to the conference?
How many showed up, and how many reported?

I do have a concern where it was said that carbohydrates are not needed to be healthy.
If this were true, then we would not have a traditional history of vegetable cultivation.
Far better that we are teaching no bad carbs, and well balanced real protein, carbs and fat.

At the very end they did make it clear they are not advocating super low carb for all.
Trouble is, most people I know, tend to lean very Paleo when they make the switch, and they get into real metabolic and endocrine failure trouble.
And I include myself in that.

Hi Paula, I just saw your posts. I’m not sure if you’ll get this, but I was curious what you meant that people can get into metabolic and endocrine failure if they take out too many carbs?

Ann Marie, thank you so much for making this great video available. The new government guidelines are a recipe for obesity, malnutrition, and illness. And profit, for the food industry, the diet industry, the drug industry, and the medical industry.

The alternate guidelines put out by the Weston A Price Foundation are a recipe for robust good health, normal weight, and a powerful immune system that will fight off most illness without doctors or drugs.

Where I read it I can’t remember, maybe I was talking to Mark McAfee of Organic Pastures and he said it, but it’s something like “Humans are the only species on Earth that doesn’t know what to eat.” It seems that must have to do with our big brains being so smart (and manipulative) that we destroy ourselves.

I see parallels in many other segments of our society, but it’s early so I’ll try to stay positive today and just say: Thanks for sharing this Cheeseslave. If everyone watched this, the world would change much more quickly. :)

Hannah you are so right. I think this is the gist of “The Omnivore’s Dilemma”. We have too many choices, and we’ve lost the way.

Thanks so much for posting this Ann Marie. I started watching it at 11 pm last night – had to give up after midnight passed, and finish this morning. I’m eager to see the PowerPoint also posted and the names of the other presenters, as I pass this on to others. A brief summary of each presenter’s issue would be helpful for those who don’t have the patience to watch the whole presentation. I imagine it will take awhile to get posted to the WAPF website.

I agree – it would be a good idea to add each presenter’s name and a short summary to the page.

I’m thinking what might prompt a dietitian I might send it to to actually listen to it.

Great Video! I really do think that Sally Fallon Morell should win the Nobel Peace Prize for establishing the Weston A. Price Foundation.

I am trying to find the powerpoint that goes along with this, but not having any luck. Do you know where it is? They mention at the beginning of the video that they will be available….

So glad there are actually people willing to speak out against the guidelines. I’ve been eating very low carbs (20 max a day) and high fat and protein for months now and feel so much better. I have more energy, no insulin spiked, and I’ve been getting stronger.

I cannot believe how much better I feel after listening to this conference and following what it says. I sleep much better…I can actually get to sleep at night now without lying awake for hours on end. And I wake up early every morning “ready to go!” I can also think so much better now as well. How odd is that…I avoided most fats my whole life but now in incorporate them as much as I can into my diet. And even though I was not trying to, I have lost weight as well, but just to my “normal” weight. I am trying to tell as many people about this who will listen. Thank you for making my own life and my children’s so much better. It all makes sense!
