Welcome to another edition of the Real Food Kitchen Tour. This week, we travel to New Mexico to tour the kitchen of Dr. Kaayla Daniel, The Naughty Nutritionist.™ www.drkaayladaniel.com
What's a Real Foodie?
A “real foodie” is someone who cooks “traditional” food. We cook stuff from scratch using real ingredients, like raw milk, grass-fed beef, eggs from chickens that run around outdoors, whole grains, sourdough and yogurt starters, mineral-rich sea salt, and natural sweeteners like honey and real maple syrup.
We don't use modern foods that are either fake, super-refined, or denatured. This includes modern vegetable oils like Crisco and margarine, soy milk, meat from factory farms, pasteurized milk from cows eating corn and soybeans, refined white flour, factory-made sweeteners like HFCS or even refined white sugar, or commercial yeast.
We believe in eating wholesome, nutrient-dense foods that come from nature. So we shop at farmer's markets or buy direct from the farmer, or we grow food in our own backyards.

Soy is not a health food, does not prevent disease and has not even been proven safe. Epidemiological, clinical and laboratory studies link soy to malnutrition, digestive problems, thyroid dysfunction, cognitive decline, reproductive disorders, even heart disease and cancer.[/caption]
Dr. Kaayla Daniel is The Naughty Nutritionist because she outrageously and humorously debunks nutritional myths. She’s Vice President of the Weston A. Price Foundation, and an avid proponent of a Nourishing Traditions-style diet. Hard to believe it today, but Kaayla wasn’t always “too hot to handle.”
For years she struggled with fatigue, lethargy and malaise and tried to get well with every diet fad out there — Ayurveda, macrobiotics, food combining, live food veganism, juicing . . . She was only able to turn her health around when she discovered the Price-Pottenger Foundation. In 1999 she joined the Weston A. Price Foundation shortly after it was founded.
Blog Name: Dr. Kaayla Daniel, The Naughty Nutritionist
Blog Author: Dr. Kaayla Daniel
Location: New Mexico
How Long Blogging: Blogging for a couple years, been naughty just about forever.
House or Apartment: House
Size of Kitchen: 8 x 15
Things You Love About Your Kitchen: Preparing dinner while watching the sun set. The kitchen dates from the late 1940s with simple and solid cupboards. I’ve updated it with a sunny yellow Kohler sink and onyx-tile countertops, a Bosch stove and super quiet Bosch dishwasher.
Things You Would Change: Time for a new frig. The old tile floor is chipped and I fancy replacing it with wood or bamboo.
Favorite Tools & Gadgets: Crockpot, of course. Chartreuse spatulas for color, Fiestaware and Harlequin pitchers for good cheer, Jade plants for prosperity and refrigerator magnets for laughs. I definitely connect with “She saw no good reason to act her age” and my warning to all guys, “Honey, you couldn’t handle half of me!”
Biggest Challenges Cooking Real Food: Getting raw milk, butter and cream. Mine comes 700 miles from Texas through a “milk runner operation.”
Current Family Favorite Meal: Buttered bacon! Just kidding. Seriously, soups and stews, especially made with lamb shanks or oxtails. Nothing better in the winter, and they provide inspiration for the book I’m doing with Sally Fallon Morell Nourishing Broth.
Favorite Cookbooks: My Food Bible is [easyazon-link asin=”0967089735″ locale=”us”]Nourishing Traditions[/easyazon-link] by Sally Fallon Morell. I’m also a big fan of Julia Child. Her old cooking shows are a hoot. I play all the DVDs and laugh and laugh. I also like the original high-fat version of [easyazon-link asin=”1580081304″ locale=”us”]The New Moosewood Cookbook[/easyazon-link] by Mollie Katzen and The [easyazon-link asin=”0914955063″ locale=”us”]The Ayurvedic Cookbook[/easyazon-link] by Amadea Morningstar. I’ve used them for 30 years. What’s different today is I tinker with all the recipes to include meat and bones!

How hot is your chile? The poster can intimidate some guys but is strictly educational, of course.

Lots of grass-fed meat, and, of course, bacon!

Let Us Tour Your Kitchen
Are you a real foodie? Do you have a kitchen that you'd like to see featured on CHEESESLAVE?
Please email me at annmarie AT cheeseslave dot com. Either send me a link to a Flickr set or email me your photos (minimum of 5, but more is better). Note: Please send me LARGE photos. Minimum 610 width. If they're too small, I can't use them.
Oh, and please send the answers to the above questions (at the very top of this post).
As much as I'd love to include all the photos I receive, I can't guarantee that I will use your photos in the series. I'm looking for creative, good quality photos.
Some ideas for photos:
- Show us what's in your fridge or what's fermenting on your counter
- Take some snaps of some of your favorite kitchen gadgets, or show us how you organize your spices
- Got backyard chickens? Send some pics!
- How about a lovely herb garden?
- Kids or pets are always cute!
- Try to include at least one photo of yourself, ideally in your kitchen
And no, you don't have to have a blog to be included in the tour.
